Sequoia/Sierra—High Sierra Backpacking

August 5 – 11, 2012

Wilderness permit restrictions may limit group to 12 spaces.

Estimated Cost: $200 per Scout.

Praticipants must be in good physical condition and ready to backpack for a week

This summer outing is for those who want something a bit more adventurous than the traditional summer camp.  We will literally get away from it all and spend the week backpacking in the Sierra high country.  Though the final route has not been decided, we are looking at the following options: returning to Sequoia National Park and hiking part of the High Sierra Trail, the Cottonwood Lakes/Soldier Lake area near Mount Whitney (this is currently the most likely route), or the Pioneer Lakes area near Bishop.  Estimated backpack distance will be approximately 30-40 miles with possibility of day hike or side trip without full backpack gear.  Any of these routes will involve some incredibly gorgeous scenery and some will involve opportunities to fish for California Golden Trout.
